As a part of Southland’s ongoing initiative to give back to the community, the Southwest Division has planned several charitable events for 2014. The division’s charity committee continues to collaborate with various organizations to not only give back to our community, but also create a community within the Southwest Division by bringing everyone together.

In February 2014, the division hosted its 1st Annual Super Bowl Chili Cook-Off which was a success, raising over $300 for the division’s charity fund. The charity fund is used to distribute funds to a variety of efforts throughout the year and serves as a great way to get the division excited for more events to come. Later that month, the charity committee stuffed mailers for the local Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada, which helped encourage donations toward a new medical wing for children’s rehabilitation. For continued support, the division holds ongoing candy sales to support its charity fund, and allow the division to participate in similar charitable efforts in the future.

On May 16th, 2014, the Southwest Division held its 7th Annual Charity Golf Classic and raised over $20,000. Of that amount, $10,500 of the proceeds will go towards Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada, a non-profit organization that brings volunteers and communities together to improve the homes and lives of low-income homeowners. The organization’s vision is to preserve affordable homeownership by creating a safe and healthy home for every individual and family in Southern Nevada. The remainder of proceeds will be contributed to the division’s charity fund, to allow participation in efforts such as the Back to School Back Pack Program in August and adopting families in need during the holiday season.

All in all, the Southwest Division looks forward to its continued support of the local community as well as elevating the community of those involved in such charitable events within our division.
